Kyoto Protocol
The parties to this protocol, as the contracting parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (hereinafter referred to as The Convention), hereby made an agreement as follow in order to achieve the final objective stated in Article 2 of The Convention and the regulations of The Convention under the guidance of Article 3 of The Convention and “Berlin Mandate” passed in Resolution 1/CP.1 at the first session of the contracting parties meeting of The Convention.
Article 1
For the purposes of this protocol, the definitions contained in Article 1 of the Convention shall apply. Besides,
1. “The Conference of Contracting Parties” refers to The Conference of Contracting Parties of The Convention.
2. “The Convention” refers to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change passed in New York on May 9, 1992.
3. “Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change” refers to the special committee on climate change between governments jointly established by World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and United Nations Environment Programme in 1988.
4. “Montreal Protocol” refers to the Montreal Protocol on Ozone Layer Depleting Substances adopted in Montreal on September 16, 1987 and later adjusted and amended.
5. “The contracting parties present and voting” refers to the contracting parties present and voting in favor or in opposition.
6. “The contracting parties” refers to the contracting parties of this protocol, unless otherwise stated in the text.
